The Research Federation Sciences & Cultures of the Visual (FR SCV) combines history, neuroscience, AI and digital technologies to develop innovative solutions around image, interaction, user experience and storytelling.
What they do
Located at the heart of a unique interdisciplinary ecosystem, the FR SCV collaborates with players in the cultural and creative industries: museums and heritage, audio-visual and design, video games, music and live performance.
It draws on the combined expertise of three research laboratories: CRIStAL (computer science, artificial intelligence), HARTIS (history, archaeology, art history), and SCALab (psychology, neuroscience). The FR SCV is under the joint supervision of the University of Lille, the CNRS, and Centrale Lille.
Our expertise
The SCV Research Federation has recognized expertise in:
• Design of immersive virtual environments
• Computer graphics and 3D scanning
• Study of the historical context for digital reconstruction
• Behavioral analysis (neuroimaging, eye tracking, physiological parameters and motion capture)
• Processing and analysis of complex data
• 3D sound spatialization for dynamic environments
• Analysis of emotional and cognitive responses during artistic performances or immersive experiences
• Development of immersive scenographies for live performance, in collaboration with artists and researchers.

With its cutting-edge technological platform and open to collaboration, the FR SCV provides access to innovative equipment and know-how: photogrammetry, 3D modeling, virtual reality, data processing and AI integration, historical digital reconstruction, avatar design and 3D animation, behavioral analysis, human performance analysis… Our interdisciplinary approach allows us to transform the results of academic research into concrete solutions for the Cultural and Creative Industries, from ideation to proof of concept.
