What they do
Founded in 1997 by the Ministry of Culture and Communication to create a new type of higher education institution for the arts, Le Fresnoy was conceived as a full-scale production studio. It welcomes students of all nationalities for two years. Their curriculum alternates between traditional visual arts (cinema, photography) and digital creations (installation, interactive devices).
Each year, Le Fresnoy produces more than 50 new works which are presented to the public, professionals and the general public, in the exhibition spaces of Le Fresnoy, in the autumn, as part of the event entitled Panorama.
In a building renovated by the Franco-American architect Bernard Tschumi, it also offers the public, throughout the year, major contemporary art exhibitions, film screenings, concerts, shows, conferences…
For the Plaine Images ecosystem, it's a true laboratory for ideas, innovation, and novel uses of technology. Numerous collaborations exist with companies as well as with certain research laboratories involved in the "Sciences and Cultures of the Visual" project, located on the first floor of the Imaginarium, Plaine Images' powerhouse.
