Everything Games are booming in sales

Traditional development wisdom encourages the creation of unique and targeted experiences that can easily be categorized: FPS, RPG, management game… Yet we are witnessing the emergence of “Everything Games,” games where (ambitious) developers seek to create multi-genre platforms that integrate multiple game modes and captivate a much wider audience.

Some examples? Stumble Guys developed by Scopely, Eggy Party, from NetEase Games are games that could be described as simplistic but which offer varied gameplay: car racing, FPS, deduction, solo quests… and ultimately offer something for everyone.

Why are everything games so successful?

The consulting agency Naavik analyzes the success of an iconic title in the everything-game genre: Brawl Stars, developed by Supercell, a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) that has now integrated itself into social media and retains its audience thanks to item collection and a variety of game modes. Players can enjoy basketball, soccer, or battles in an arena. The winning formula: maximum engagement and retention, and organic growth. A viral phenomenon in classrooms, Brawl Stars has seen its revenue skyrocket: $66.8 million in revenue in March 2024, surpassing its other highly successful title, Clash of Clans, for the first time.

How to meet the demand for everything games?

So how do we capitalize on this trend? Let's be clear from the start: most games should not rush headlong into this diversification, the risk being to lose focus at the beginning of development, and to have unclear marketing visibility.

However, established games with a strong user base can strengthen their network effects and appeal by diversifying their gameplay. The bottom line? Perhaps providing new gaming experiences doesn't necessarily require creating entirely new products: expanding and diversifying existing games can broaden the core gameplay, maintain, and ideally, increase engagement!
