“The Empress Remarried,” “Sweet Home,” “True Beauty”—titles that might not ring a bell if you're not an avid webtoon reader. These three works have amassed nearly 286 million views, each with a series adaptation on Netflix or elsewhere.
Making a name for oneself in the webtoon market, amidst thousands of other works, means facing fierce competition. Nevertheless, ideas are multiplying to continue offering a diverse range of stories that can appeal to all audiences.
Ouros (우로스): A story of love and destiny 💔
"In a world ravaged by war, two beings who are complete opposites love each other against all odds. Their forbidden passion will shatter the greatest of taboos and forever change the destiny of their people. Their union will fulfill the prophecy of the depths… Ouros !"
Driven by a desire to share an original, fantastical, and poetic story, the independent studio Akogée Studio embarked on the webtoon adventure. The team consists of:
- Josselin Azorin-Lara, Creator, screenwriter and producer of webtoons & transmedia;
- Erwan Lelièvre, Screenwriter and narrative designer;
- Nemerle, Webtoon artist, children's book illustrator.
Season 1, already available in French and English, has captivated an initial international audience. Proof that French webtoons have earned their place on the world stage.
Further proof: Ouros won first prize at the "Frenchtoon Selection", organized by Jaedam Media and theFrench Embassy in the Republic of Korea. This award provides the French project with valuable visibility in one of the world's most dynamic markets for webtoons.
The "Frenchtoon Selection": a showcase for French webtoons in Korea 🇫🇷
To mark the 140th anniversary of Franco-Korean diplomatic relations, Jaedam Media – a major player in IP Business & webtoon – and the French Embassy in Korea launched a unique festival: the "Frenchtoon Selection." The goal? To introduce Korean audiences to the diversity of French webtoons by translating and distributing them for free on the Jaedam Shortz.
Among the 10 selected works, Ouros stood out among Korean readers, who were able to vote for their favorite webtoon from March 1st to May 31st, 2026. It was ultimately Ouros that won this first edition, offering the Akogée Studio team a unique opportunity to make themselves known in a demanding and passionate market.
A prize with promising prospects 🏆
This first prize represents a gateway for Ouros into Korea. The winner receives an official rights transfer contract, as well as support for serialization and distribution there. This is an incredible opportunity to reach a passionate audience of webtoon enthusiasts and gauge the reception of a 100% French creation.
Season 2 in preparation: "The Blood Pact"
To take things further, Akogée Studio launched a crowdfunding campaign to finance its second season, titled "The Blood Pact." The goal? To continue the adventure, unlock new episodes, and offer exclusive rewards to contributors, such as artbooks, exclusive illustrations by guest artists, personalized portraits, and more.

The campaign ends on June 15, 2026 – an opportunity to take the next step and allow the team to realize its ambitions.
