Presented on June 17 at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival , the new animated feature film, produced by Ankama and co-directed by Anthony Roux and Jean-Jacques Denis (who had already collaborated on the Dofus film and the Wakfu series), is a poetic tale that transports us into an imaginary world.

A third poetic feature film for Ankama
Princess Dragon tells the story of Poil, a little girl raised by a powerful dragon. But when her father has to pay the Sorcery for his second most precious possession, it is Poil he offers, plunging his daughter into deep sorrow and forcing her to flee the family cave. Poil then embarks on a journey to discover the world of humans. Through her interactions with them, she will learn about friendship, solidarity, but also the greed that seems to gnaw at the hearts of men ( synopsis AlloCiné ).

A production that returns to the origins of the more traditional tale.
The pastel, watercolor aesthetic, quite different from Ankama's other productions, is inspired by the works of Gustave Doré and Arthur Rackham. It's a natural 2D rendering, combining digital techniques and pencil strokes. To learn more about the tools used by the design team, we refer you to this interview with Patricia Robert (producer), Julien Bachelet (lead composer), and Jean-Jacques Denis (co-director).
And it's official: Princess Dragon will be released in theaters on December 15, 2021, after 5 years of planning and development. In the meantime, we're sharing the first animated images from the film!
