Tackling a classic and making it the first signature project of a new studio is a bit like attempting Mont Blanc right after simply training to climb Mont Cassel, 176 meters high . It can be daunting…
This is precisely the challenge that Benoît Limare, founder of the studio [2.21] , set out to take on in 2021. The Everest, in this case, is a classic of 90s gaming. Little Big Adventure , released in 1994, is an action-adventure game conceived by Frédérick Raynal (also the creator of the equally legendary Alone in the Dark ) that enjoyed resounding success worldwide. It was a commercial success (nearly 500,000 copies were reportedly sold worldwide) but also a critical one, with Joystick magazine (a leading publication at the time) raving after reviewing it in advance: "LBA is coming soon, the most beautiful game in the world!"
PIX roundtable on licensing in March 2024:
“LBA is very big, because it represents a lot for gaming communities in very specific countries, in France, Brazil, etc. It was a bit of a lifelong dream of mine; I always wanted to make a new version of the game. And pragmatically, such a license allowed me to minimize artistic risks for a first game and to find investors.”
A leading publisher: Microids
After 18 months of development by Benoît and his team, the French publisher Microids chose to support the project and add it to its catalog. They announced this in June 2024 with a reveal trailer and officially launched the marketing campaign at Gamescom in Cologne in August of the same year.
The remake therefore offers a new artistic direction, updated gameplay and brand new music composed by Philippe Vachey , the ambition is indeed to "revive the magic of the original game while absorbing today's know-how".
Release date? Autumn 24!
The [2.21] team is already animating this community of fans of the first version of the game, while aiming to attract young players, possibly tempted by a title that has retained its originality and freshness.
A website is running this community, which is being offered the opportunity to test chapter 1 of the game, from September 25th at 10:21 am to October 2nd at 10:21 am!
Little Big Adventure – Twinsen's Quest will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC in Autumn 2024.
