A place steeped in history

Within the walls of Plaine Images, the echo of the first creative revolutions still resonates.

After the decline of the textile industry in the 1950s, the Plaine Images district, built on a former factory, was reborn in 2007 with the arrival of Le Fresnoy – National Studio of Contemporary Arts, Pictanovo (formerly CRRAV) and Ankama, major players in the Cultural and Creative Industries.

This transformation is part of a historical continuum: as early as the 19th century, the textile industry was already harnessing creativity through pattern design and the use of Jacquard looms. The Hauts-de-France region also has a pioneering spirit in the audiovisual sector, with regional ambitions dating back to the 1950s. In 1953, Lille participated in the first Eurovision broadcast. Today, companies like Nacon, Ankama, 52 Entertainment, and Alive embody this regional creative revival.
